Spirits of Cooktown | Open auditions

After a successful performance last year, Box Jelly Theatre Company is back! This time, they’re once again partnering with local organisations to bring The Spirits of Cooktown to life – a unique community theatre event that draws inspiration from the true stories from our local pioneer cemetery. Cooktown’s rich and colourful history will once again take centre stage in this vibrant celebration of local storytelling.

Local aspiring actors, singers, and musicians aged 13 years and over are invited to audition for this exciting production, which will be performed live in Cooktown on 3 and 4 October. Open auditions will be held remotely via video or phone call on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August 2025, making it easy for anyone to take part – no matter where they’re based in the region.

Successful participants will take part in a dress rehearsal on Thursday 2 October in Cooktown, ahead of two public performances that follow on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 August, that promise to capture the spirit and soul of the town.

“This is an opportunity for local talent to shine, and for the community to come together and celebrate Cooktown’s vibrant past in a creative and meaningful way,” said a spokesperson for Box Jelly Theatre Company.
