Cook Shire Council is progressing with the upgrade of the sports lighting at John Street Oval, Cooktown, with works due to begin Thursday, 18 September 2025.
The old lights have already been removed, and the next stage will see the installation of a modern LED lighting system that meets NRL facility standards, providing better illumination and safer conditions for evening games.
The project also includes an upgrade to the electrical system and the installation of specialised poles, designed to make future maintenance easier and safer, ensuring reliable operation for years to come.
Works will be carried out by REES Sports Lighting, a contractor with extensive experience in major sports field lighting projects across Australia. Installation is scheduled to begin this Thursday 18 September 2025.
This project is proudly funded through Works for Queensland (W4Q).
Council thanks the community for their patience and understanding while these important upgrades are completed.
