Stage 1 of the Ayton Footpath Project is now complete, delivering safer and more accessible pedestrian connections in the heart of Ayton. The project forms part of Council’s 2024–25 Operational Plan and was identified as a key community infrastructure priority.
This first stage focused on constructing a formal footpath along a frequently used corridor in the township, significantly improving walkability and reducing reliance on unsealed road shoulders. The works support greater safety for residents and visitors, particularly school children, older community members, and people with mobility considerations.
Council acknowledges the patience and support of the Ayton community during construction and is pleased to confirm that momentum will continue into 2025–26.
Thanks to $220,000 in funding secured through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, Stage 2 of the Ayton Footpath Project has now been included in Council’s 2025–26 Operational Plan.
Stage 2 will extend the footpath network to connect more sections of the township, further enhancing safety and connectivity for pedestrians. Planning and design for the next stage is underway, with works anticipated to commence in the new financial year.
