Cook Shire businesses and community groups are invited to take part in free Business Disaster Resilience Training sessions this October.
The customised workshops, running across Cooktown, Ayton, Lakeland, Coen, and Portland Roads from 13–16 October, are designed to help local businesses strengthen their disaster resilience and prepare for storm season.
Participants will gain practical skills in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, with tailored sessions covering topics such as:
- Preparing for disasters and training staff
- Communicating effectively in a crisis
- Accessing disaster recovery grants through QRIDA and other providers
- Making insurance claims
- Embedding resilience into everyday business practices
The interactive training will also guide participants through real-life scenarios and provide access to templates, resources, and tools from the Small Business Disaster Hub and other organisations.
By the end of the session, attendees will walk away with greater confidence in managing disasters, identifying gaps in their planning, and knowing how to access financial and practical support when needed.
