New fences strengthen Coen’s community spaces

The Coen community is benefiting from two important upgrades, with new fencing works now complete at both the local cemetery and the town oval.

Funded through the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland (W4Q) program, the projects have improved safety, access, and space for the community.

At the Coen Cemetery, fencing works have allowed the site to expand after reaching capacity. The project included clearing and fencing a larger area, ensuring the cemetery can continue to serve the community for years to come.

Upgrades at the Coen Oval have also enhanced safety and usability for local families. The previous fence had deteriorated, allowing cattle and dogs to enter the grounds. The new works replaced 90% of the mesh, reinforced and replaced posts as needed, and added new pedestrian gates to make access easier and safer for everyone.

These upgrades are helping create safer, more functional spaces for the Coen community to use and enjoy.
