Free sandbags are now available to residents in Cooktown, Ayton, Rossville, Bloomfield and Helenvale as a low pressure system off the coast is forecast to bring rain and thunderstorms to Far North Queensland and Australia’s northern coastline.
Cooktown residents can collect and fill their own sandbags at the Cooktown SES headquarters on Charlotte Street from 1pm today and tomorrow.
Ayton, Bloomfield and Rossville residents are advised that fill-your-own sandbags are now available at the Ayton Wharf.
The developing low has prompted forecasters to predict rainfall and possible thunderstorm activity across the region in coming days.
Residents are encouraged to collect sandbags early and prepare their properties as needed.
Stay informed about the weather through official sources including Council’s Disaster Dashboard at disaster.cook.qld.gov.au, and the Bureau of Meteorology.
