Cook Shire Council acknowledges community concerns regarding the Lakeland Waste Transfer Station (WTS) not currently being open on Saturdays and appreciates the community’s patience and understanding.
Council has recently resumed management of the Lakeland WTS. During this transition, and due to short-term staffing constraints over the Christmas shutdown period, Saturday openings have been temporarily paused. Council recognises that this has caused inconvenience for some residents and apologises for the disruption.
This is a temporary arrangement only. Council is actively recruiting, with interviews taking place in the coming days, and is working to return the Lakeland WTS to normal operating hours, including Saturdays, as soon as staffing is resolved.
Council thanks the Lakeland community for their understanding while we work to restore full service and will provide an update as soon as normal operating hours resume.
