Botanic Gardens Week

MONDAY 19 MAY – SUNDAY 25 MAY 2025

Botanic Gardens Day has been extended to a full week! This is an annual week of celebration to highlight the role of plants in our lives and the important work botanic gardens and arboreta undertake every day to conserve them for future generations.

This Years Theme

Guardians of the Green

Protecting our Future

Inspired by the success of zoos in raising awareness for wildlife conservation, this year we are positioning botanic gardens as the ‘zoos for plants’ – places where rare and threatened species are safeguarded for future generations and where society can learn and connect with nature. Additionally, just as zoos are connected globally, so are botanic gardens. Discover how we are a network of gardens collaborating and sharing species to fight extinction.

A key aim of BGANZ is to raise awareness of the critical conservation work that is undertaken by botanic gardens and the role they play in educating the public on the value of plants. With over 90 member gardens, we celebrate this incredible work across the week of May through events and story telling.
