Cook Shire Council invites all residents to roll up their sleeves and get storm ready with the Get Ready! Yard Clean-Up Competition.
A tidy yard isn’t just about looking good — it’s about protecting your family, home, and community when extreme weather hits. By clearing debris, trimming vegetation, and removing hazards, you’ll reduce risks and could win valuable preparedness prizes!
Categories & Judging
The Get Ready! Yard Clean-Up Competition has two entry categories, giving everyone the chance to get involved:
Category 1: Most Improved
This category is for residents who want to show the biggest transformation.
-
Entrants must submit both a “before” photo of their yard at the start and an “after” photo once the clean-up is complete.
-
Judges will assess entries based on:
-
The degree of improvement between the two photos
-
The effort and creativity put into the clean-up
-
How effectively hazardous debris and risks have been removed
-
This is the perfect category if your yard needs some extra attention and you’re ready to put in the work.
Category 2: Cleanest Yard
This category celebrates residents who already keep their properties neat, safe, and well-presented.
-
Entrants only need to submit an “after” photo showing their yard in its best possible condition.
-
Judges will assess entries based on:
-
Overall presentation and tidiness
-
Evidence that the property is free of hazardous debris
-
The level of ongoing care and maintenance demonstrated
-
This is the category for those who take pride in keeping their yard in top shape year-round.
Entries are open from 5pm Friday 3 October until 5pm Monday 17 November 2025.
