Get Ready! Yard Clean-Up Competition

TERMS & CONDITIONS

 

The following Terms and Conditions apply to the Get Ready! Yard Clean-Up Competition (“the Competition”) conducted by Cook Shire Council. By entering the Competition, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

It is the responsibility of each entrant to read and understand these Terms and Conditions before submitting an entry. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

2. Competition Name

Get Ready! Yard Clean-Up Competition (the “Competition”).

3. Competition Period

The Competition opens at 5pm on Friday 3 October 2025 and closes 5pm Monday 17 November 2025. All times are Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) unless stated otherwise.

4. Eligibility

  1. Open only to residents within the Cook Shire local government area aged 18 years or older who own or rent the property entered.
  2. Elected Members of Cook Shire Council are not eligible to enter.
  3. Only one entry per property is permitted.
  4. Each property is eligible to enter in only one of the following categories:

a) Most Improved with before and after photos, OR

b) Cleanest Yard with an after photo at the end of the competition

5. How to Enter

Entry is free.

There are two categories of entry:

  1. Category 1: Most Improved
    • Register online from 5:00 pm, Friday 3 October 2025 via the official form.
    • Submit a landscape, date stamped “Before” photo clearly showing the yard prior to any works.
    • Complete your yard clean-up during the Competition Period.
    • Submit a landscape, date stamped “After” photo before 5:00 pm, Monday 17 November 2025.
  2. Category 2: Cleanest Yard
    • Register online from 5:00 pm, Friday 4 October 2025 via the official form.
    • Submit a landscape, date stamped photo of your yard before 5:00 pm, Monday 17 November 2025.

6. Entry Content Requirements

  1. If any person (including children) is identifiable in images, the entrant warrants they have obtained written consent from those individuals (and guardian consent for minors) for submission and Council’s promotional use.
  2. Any photos showing unsafe or illegal practices will be disqualified.
    • Council may request verification of eligibility and compliance.

7. Judging Criteria

  1. A judging panel appointed by Council will assess valid entries from the photos submitted.
  2. Judging criteria is as follows:
    • degree of improvement,
    • Level of effort evident in the outcomes
    • and reduction of hazardous debris based on “Before/After” photos.
  3. The Judges decision is final

8. Prizes

Prizes categories will include ONE(1) first place prize and ONE (1) second place prize for the Most Improved category. There will be ONE first place prize for the Cleanest Yard category. Prizes are as follows;

1. Most Improved
First Place: Makita Chainsaw Kit DUC400PT2 valued at $869.00.
Second Place: Pantry Preparedness Kit valued at $300

2. Cleanest Yard
First Place: Makita Line Trimmer 18V Skin & 3.0AH Battery with Charger valued at $758

    3. Total prize pool valued at $1,927.

    4. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash.

    5. Council may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if unavailable.

    6. Council is not responsible for any ongoing costs associated with prize use (e.g., fuel or maintenance).

     

    9. Winner Notification and Publication

    1. Winners will be notified by phone and/or email within seven (7) days of the Competition closing.
    2. Winners will also be announced on Council’s website.
    3. If a winner cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts within 14 days, the Promoter may award the prize to the next best-ranked entry.

    10. Image Licence and Publicity

    1. By entering, entrants grant the Promoter a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, reproduce, edit and communicate submitted images and entrant names for Competition administration and promotional purposes (including Council’s website and publications).
    2. Entrants consent to reasonable use of their name and residential area for winner announcements.

    11. Safety, Compliance and Acceptable Conduct

    1. Entrants must conduct clean-up activities safely and in accordance with applicable laws (e.g., waste disposal, local laws).
    2. Participation is at the entrant’s own risk.
    3. Entries that are unlawful, offensive, misleading or otherwise breach these terms may be disqualified.

    12. Privacy

    1. The Promoter collects personal information to administer the Competition and for promotional purposes as described above.     2. Individuals may request access to their information.

    13. General

    1. Council is not responsible for late, lost or misdirected entries or for any technical issues beyond its control.
    2. Council may amend, suspend or cancel the Competition if it cannot run as planned (e.g., fraud, technical failure, disaster), subject to applicable laws.
