Cooktown and Coen
Cook Shire Council has launched new self-serve potable water units in Cooktown and Coen, providing convenient and reliable access to clean drinking water for residents, contractors, and travellers.
What are they?
These bright royal blue, self-service water stations are designed to make it easy for anyone to purchase and fill up with safe, clean drinking water. Whether you’re travelling through the region, working locally, or managing water needs for a project, these units offer a simple and accessible solution.
Locations

Cooktown: Located at the Cooktown Works Depot, 33 Charlotte Street (outside the SES Building).

Coen: Available by the end of April 2025.
Please note: The previous Avdata fob/key system and water station at 33 Charlotte Street will be decommissioned on 28 April 2025. Fobs should be returned to Council’s Customer Service.
How to use the water stations

Payment: Use your credit or debit card for one-time purchases. No account setup is required.

Business accounts: If you require regular access, you can request to set up a business account through Council.

Hose connection: You must bring your own hose and fittings. The units support:

25mm hose fittings

80mm camlock fittings

Water costs

Cooktown: $4.40 per 1,000 litres

Coen: $8.80 per 1,000 litres
