From Tuesday 1 July 2025, Cook Shire Council’s bin labelling program will officially come into effect.
That means from tomorrow, if your bin isn’t compliant or clearly labelled, it may not be collected on your next scheduled kerbside collection day. Now is the perfect time to check your bin and make sure you understand what any notification stickers mean—and what to do if you’ve received one.
Our No Label = No Service bin Labelling Program was formally announced on 23 April 2025, but it’s been part of Council’s publicly available 2024–25 Operational Plan.
So, what happens now?
From Tuesday 1 July:
- Unlabelled bin will not be collected.
- Non-compliant bins will not be emptied and will be issues a yellow “Non-compliance notice” sticker
- Bins that are too full, facing the wrong way, or contain prohibited items (like batteries, paint, or e-waste) will be issued a friendly green “Oops!” notification sticker.
These stickers are not fines—they’re friendly reminders that something’s gone wrong and guidance on how to fix it before your next collection. However, if the issue isn’t resolved, further action such as an infringement notice may follow.
Got a Sticker? Here’s What It Means
From 1 July our Waste Collection drivers will be issuing bin notification stickers to alert residents to any issues with their bins. Understanding your sticker is key to keeping your waste service running smoothly.

How to Stay Compliant
To ensure your bin gets emptied:
- Make sure it has a valid Cook Shire Council label
- Keep your bin in good condition (no missing wheels or cracks)
- Don’t overfill it
- Keep prohibited items out
- Place it on the kerb facing the correct way
If your bin is tagged with a notification, don’t panic—just follow the instructions and make sure it’s ready for your next scheduled collection.
