Council is now inviting community feedback on Major Amendment 3.0 (Lakeland) to the Cook Shire Planning Scheme.
Following completion of the required State interest review process, Council is commencing the mandated public notification period in accordance with the Planning Act 2016.
Feedback and submission period
The public notification period will be open from:
Monday 9 February 2026 to Friday 7 March 2026 (inclusive).
During this time, community members are encouraged to review the proposed amendment and lodge a formal submission if they wish to provide feedback.

How to make a submission
Submissions must be lodged in writing during the public notification period and in accordance with the requirements outlined on Council’s webpage.
Submission instructions, key documents and contact details are available on the dedicated amendment page.
Community information sessions
Community members will have the opportunity to learn more about the proposed amendment during the public notification period.
Information will be available at Council’s Community Update Event in Cooktown, being held on Thursday 19 February at the Sovereign Resort, from 5pm.
A separate information session will also be held in Lakeland, with Council’s planning consultants in attendance. Event details for the Lakeland session will be confirmed and published shortly.
