About the Community Scorecard Action Plan

The Roads Ahead initiative directly delivers on a key action from Council’s Community Scorecard Action Plan 2025–2027, designed to improve transparency and build community confidence.

By providing clear, regular updates on upcoming and ongoing roadworks, Roads Ahead helps residents plan ahead, understand the diverse and complex schedule of works taking place across Cook Shire, and see the scale of activity—even when works may not be visible in their immediate area.

With a Shire as vast as ours, this initiative aims to show that a significant program of road maintenance, upgrades, and recovery works is happening year-round—whether it’s visible on your local road or being undertaken hundreds of kilometres away.

Cook Shire Council’s monthly update to help you plan your travel and stay informed about roadworks across the Shire.

Roads Ahead is a simple, consistent update every month via our website, digital newsletter, and a paid advertisement in the Cape York Weekly. It responds directly to community feedback and is an action from Council’s Community Scorecard Action Plan 2025–2027.

How Roads Ahead works:

Each month, community members will find a snapshot summary of Council’s planned roadworks scheduled to take place during the weeks ahead, published across the following digital and traditional media channels:

  • A dedicated website post published each month with summary of locations, timeframes and what to expect on the road.
  • A monthly digital Roads Ahead snapshot sent to our email subscriber list.
  • A paid update in the Cape York Weekly to reach readers who prefer print.
  • Posters displayed on council managed noticeboards at the following locations:
    • Cooktown IGA
    • Cooktown Events Centre
    • Cooktown Post Office
    • All Cook Shire Libraries
    • Council’s Main Administration Building
