Proposed Planning Scheme Amendment (Lakeland)
Cook Shire Council is pleased to advise that the proposed Major Amendment No.3 to the Cook Shire Council Planning Scheme 2017 is now on public display. Community members and stakeholders are encouraged to review the proposed amendment and provide feedback.
The proposed Major Amendment No.3 gives effect to the recently endorsed Lakeland Master Plan and Infrastructure Plan 2023, which sets out future planning and infrastructure needs for the township of Lakeland.
The proposed amendments, including mapping, can be viewed online via the links below or in person at Council’s Branch Office in Cooktown. Copies of the documents can also be requested from Council by:

Note: No changes are proposed to the Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) as part of this amendment. A separate plan-making process is required to amend the LGIP.

Note: Changes are not proposed to the Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) mapping as part of Major Amendment No. 3. A separate plan-making process is required to amend an LGIP.
Making a submission
Cook Shire Council is seeking your feedback before finalising and deciding whether to adopt the proposed amendments.
The public consultation period is from 9 February – 7 March 2026
To ensure your submission can be considered in accordance with legislative requirements, please ensure that it:
- is made in writing or by email
- includes your name and address
- includes your signature
- is received by Council no later than 5.00 pm on 7 March 2026
