Cook Shire Council is pleased to announce the official swearing-in of its newly elected Councillors at the Post-election meeting held today Tuesday, 9 April 2024. The ceremony, administered by CEO Brian Joiner, marked the commencement of their duties in serving the community.
Returning Councillors Marilyn Morris and Ross Logan were sworn in alongside newcomers, Gavin Dear, Sarah Martin, Justin Coventry, and Melinda Parker, bringing a wealth of experience and commitment to improving our region for all residents.
New Mayor, Cr Robyn Holmes was sworn in when she assumed her duties on Tuesday, 2 April 2024 following the declaration of her election. Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to lead Cook Shire Council, Cr Holmes stated, “I am honoured to lead Cook Shire Council and am committed to serving our community with integrity and transparency. Together with my fellow Councillors, we will work with communities across the Shire to address the challenges and opportunities facing our region, ensuring a bright future for all residents.”
Key agenda items discussed during the inaugural meeting included the appointment of Cr Marilyn Morris as Deputy Mayor, and Cr Holmes as Chair of the Cook Shire Local Disaster Management Group, as well as the adoption of dates for the remaining 2024 Ordinary Council meetings.
Cook Shire Council looks forward to the collective efforts of the new Council towards driving positive change and progress for the community as well as its neighbouring communities across Cape York Peninsula.
