At a Special Meeting held on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, Council approved a significant development application (DA/4609) for the reconfiguration of a single lot into 13 new rural lifestyle lots, plus one balance lot, along Mulligan Highway.
This project represents an exciting opportunity for local housing growth and community development, offering new residential options while maintaining environmental and infrastructure standards.
The approved residential lots, located approximately 20 kilometres south of Cooktown, range in size from 2.6 hectares to 6.4 hectares. Each lot includes designated building envelopes, access driveways and comply with Council’s Rural Lifestyle Lots as contemplated by the Cook Shire Council Planning Scheme 2017v2, providing future residents with spacious, scenic properties close to essential services. Council has approved this application subject to reasonable and relevant conditions, in coordination with the state referral agencies (vegetation and state roads), to ensure that infrastructure and environmental standards are met and maintained and that any constraints and hazards associated with the land are mitigated, and the development permit demonstrates compliance with the relevant assessment benchmarks.
