Cooktown water supply

Photograph of Cook Shire water team flushing hydrants east of Hope Street Cooktown.

Council is investigating the cause of discoloured water from the Annan Water Treatment Plant. Crews are actively flushing and scouring the water network across Cooktown to expedite the clearing process. Please be aware of pooling water on roads in some areas and drive carefully to suit the conditions.

Extensive water quality testing has confirmed that the water is safe to drink. If you are concerned, you can bring water to a rolling boil (when continuous bubbles rise from the bottom of the pot) and then store it in a clean container.

We thank you for your patience as our teams work to resolve this issue and restore water clarity. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Council by calling 4082 0500 during office hours, or emailing mail@cook.qld.gov.au at your convenience.
