Cook Shire Council is committed to ensuring safe and reliable access for all road users. Below is an update on current and upcoming roadworks across key areas:
Bitumen Sealing: Old Barge Landing to Granite Creek
- A 3.2 km section of road from Old Barge Landing to Granite Creek is scheduled for bitumen sealing on 5 December 2024, weather permitting.
- Some small sections, such as the major washout site before the guard rail section, will be skipped for now as they require additional batter protection works.
- These areas will be made safe for two-way traffic and regularly monitored throughout the wet season.
BLOOMFIELD ROAD: ASPHALT PATCHING
Asphalt patching on multiple sections of Bloomfield Road is progressing well and is expected to be completed before Christmas, subject to favorable weather conditions.
MAJOR SLIP SITES: CEDAR BAY RANGE, OLD HEAD BEAM SITE, NEAR BOAT RAMPS
- Procurement of construction resources for these major slip sites is underway.
- Repair works are planned for the new year post-wet season.
- These roads will remain open under controlled conditions and will be regularly monitored during the wet season to ensure safe access.
DAMAGED CAUSEWAYS: GAP CREEK, PLATYPUS CREEK, AND OLUFSEN CREEK
- Detailed designs for the damaged causeways at Gap Creek, Platypus Creek, and Olufsen Creek have been completed.
- Construction will commence once funding and resources are secured.
- Temporary arrangements:
- Gap Creek and Olufsen Creek crossings will remain open with current access.
- The Maybe Bridge detour will remain in place for Platypus Creek until construction is completed.
- Council will monitor these sites and crossings, particularly the temporary Maybe Bridge, after significant rain events to ensure safe passage. Strengthening and protection of rock wall abutments will be carried out as needed.
We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as these critical works are carried out to improve safety and reliability on our roads.
