A Christmas to remember in Cook Shire: A recap of 2024 celebrations

Cook Shire ended 2024 with a series of festive celebrations, thanks to our dedicated Council Events team. From Cooktown to Coen, the community came together to celebrate the holiday season in style.

On Saturday, 6 December 2024, Sunset with Santa in Cooktown kicked off the festivities. The community gathered to enjoy live music by Big Pups, circus performances and lessons from Dream State Circus, a wonderful display of gift stalls at the twilight market, and a special visit from Santa.

In Lakeland, the Council events team supported the local Christmas celebration, bringing the community together with Big Pups’ live music and Dream State Circus performances. The spirit of the season was alive and well.

Christmas in Coen brought the celebrations to a joyful close, with Bugzy Bumble Bee spreading joy with bubble shows and activities for the kids. Meanwhile, Big Pups kept the festive atmosphere alive. Other activities throughout the day were enjoyed by community members of all ages, bringing everyone together in the holiday spirit. With a sneaky visit from the Grinch, even he couldn’t stop the Christmas joy—he tried, but it looks like he couldn’t steal our holiday cheer!

These events were more than just celebrations—they were a chance for Cook Shire to come together, making memories and spreading festive cheer. A huge thank you to our Events team, performers, and volunteers and everyone else invloved for making 2024’s Christmas one to remember!
