There’s a lot happening at the Cooktown Events Centre as we kick off 2025 with new programs, new faces, and exciting opportunities for the community!
New afterschool basketball and netball programs
We’re thrilled to announce three community sports programs: afterschool basketball, Fast5 youth drop-in netball and the return of senior social netball! These programs provide a fantastic way to stay active, have fun, and connect with others. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, everyone is welcome to join.
New team members
To keep up with the growing activity at the Centre, we’ve expanded our team! We’re excited to officially welcome Sabine and Ilyaree to our Events Centre team. Sabine, a familiar face at the Centre, is now a valued part of our operations, while Ilyaree, who many might recognise from Nature’s Powerhouse, has been successfully recruited as the Centre’s Administration Officer. Together with Centre Manager Stephen Wishart, they are dedicated to providing top-notch facilities and services for our community.
Additionally, we’ve engaged group fitness leader Rachel Chapman, who is available on Tuesdays (11 AM – 2 PM) and Thursdays (9 AM – 12 NOON) to support gym members with inductions and general fitness advice. Bookings are essential—email eventscentre@cook.qld.gov.au to book your 30-minute session.
Room bookings now open
In addition to our sports and fitness programs, we’re pleased to announce that room bookings have commenced at the Centre. Whether you’re hosting a community event, business meeting, or conference, we have a range of spaces available to suit your needs. From our multipurpose courts and stage to smaller meeting rooms and conference facilities, the Centre is well-equipped to accommodate a variety of events. Get in touch with our team to discuss your requirements and secure your booking today!
Expanded opportunities for local sport & recreation providers
Last, but certainly not least, as part of our commitment to broadening opportunities for health, wellness, sport, and recreation, we opened an Invitation for Tenders for the Register of Pre-Qualified Suppliers for Sports and Recreation at the Centre. This process is designed to attract local service providers who are suitably qualified to deliver a regular range of classes, programs, and workshops. Our goal is to engage providers who can offer high-quality, diverse programs that promote active lifestyles and community participation.
Submissions for this tender close on 12 February. Click here for more details and to apply.
Looking ahead
With so many exciting developments, the Cooktown Events Centre continues to grow as a hub for fitness, recreation, and community engagement. Whether you’re looking to join a new program, train at our gym, book a space for your next event, or contribute as a local service provider, there’s something for everyone. Get involved, stay active, and be part of the action!
