Experience a powerful fusion of culture, art, and storytelling

Internationally renowned artist, musician, and cultural ambassador Dr David Hudson is bringing his groundbreaking exhibition, Ancestral Lines: Art Beyond Boundaries, to Cooktown. This thought-provoking exhibition will open on Saturday 22 February 2025 at the Charles Tanner Gallery, Nature’s Powerhouse.

Dr Hudson, a proud Ewamian and Western Yalanji man, is known for his ability to transcend cultural and generational divides through his work. His art is a vibrant expression of identity, resilience, and connection to country. Ancestral Lines invites audiences on a journey that reimagines boundaries—not as barriers, but as spaces where cultures meet, histories intertwine, and conversations thrive.

A unique and immersive exhibition

Using fence posts as his artistic canvas, Hudson transforms symbols of division into powerful storytelling mediums. The exhibition masterfully weaves together traditional Indigenous patterns and contemporary techniques, creating an evocative cultural tapestry that bridges the past and the present. Through interactive and immersive elements, visitors will be encouraged to engage with the artwork on a deeper level, breaking down perceived barriers and fostering meaningful connections.

Dr Hudson’s artistic and musical career has taken him across the globe, from performing alongside Greek composer Yanni to co-founding the award-winning Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. His work, both in music and visual art, continues to inspire and educate audiences worldwide about the depth and richness of Indigenous Australian culture.
