With the arrival of the summer season, the Cooktown Community Pool has seen a significant increase in early morning lap swimmers between 6 AM and 8 AM. As we approach the upcoming Laps for Life fundraiser, we anticipate an even higher number of swimmers during these hours.
To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for everyone, we are introducing a designated lane sharing system based on swimming pace. This system will help streamline lane usage, reduce misunderstandings, and create a more respectful and cooperative environment for both swimmers and staff.
How It Works
- Lanes will be allocated according to swimming pace—fast, medium, and slow—to help ensure a smooth and harmonious flow in the pool.
- Swimmers are encouraged to join the lane that best matches their pace and be mindful of others in the lane.
- If a lane is occupied, swimmers will need to share rather than expecting exclusive use.
- Our friendly staff will be available to guide swimmers in selecting the most appropriate lane.
Respect for All
In the past, when staff have reminded swimmers to share lanes, there have been instances of hostility and unkind behaviour. We kindly remind everyone that the pool is a shared space, and mutual respect is essential to maintaining a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
