Join us for a fun-filled morning at the Cooktown SES Open Day on Saturday, 26 April 2025, from 9 am to 11 am at the SES Shed, 31 Charlotte Street, Cooktown. This community event offers something for everyone — whether you’re keen to learn more about the State Emergency Service (SES), thinking about volunteering, or just looking for a great family outing.
The Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to meet our local SES volunteers and get a first-hand look at their essential role in keeping our community safe. You’ll be able to explore emergency vehicles and equipment, ask questions about what it means to be an SES volunteer and discover how you can get involved — no prior experience is required, just a willingness to help.
There’ll be plenty of fun, family-friendly activities on offer. A FREE BBQ breakfast will be available, and the jumping castle to keep the kids entertained. There’s also a lucky door prize up for grabs, and the first five new members who sign up to join the SES on the day will receive a FREE welcome kit.
In the lead-up to the event, community members of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Cooktown SES Colouring-In Competition, which is open from Monday, 14 April and closes on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.
Entry forms can be collected from Cook Shire Libraries, the Cooktown Events Centre, Cooktown Pool, or the Council Main Admin Building. Completed entries must be returned to the Council Main Admin Office by the close of business on Wednesday, 23 April. Winners will be announced on the SES Open Day. So, sharpen those pencils and get your entries in early for your chance to win!
Whether you’re interested in joining the SES or want to enjoy a morning of community fun, food and creativity, the Cooktown SES Open Day is not to be missed. Come along and support the incredible volunteers who make a difference in times of need — and maybe even take the first step toward becoming one yourself.
