Coen Controlled Burn

Council and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) Rangers will be conducting a controlled burn along designated firebreaks on Tuesday, 6 May 2025. This proactive measure is aimed at reducing fuel loads in preparation for a series of planned burns scheduled throughout the year.

The burn will be carried out in accordance with QPWS safety protocols and local fire management strategies. It plays a critical role in mitigating the risk of larger, uncontrolled bushfires during the dry season by removing excess vegetation and maintaining clear firebreaks.

A map has been provided highlighting the firebreaks marked in white, which indicate the tracks scheduled for burning.

Residents and visitors in the area may notice smoke and increased activity on the day of the burn. Council advises the public to avoid the marked areas where possible and to drive with caution if travelling near the burn sites.
