Solid Rock sing along set to unite the shire at Discovery Festival

Cooktown, get ready to raise your voice!

A bold and heartfelt community moment is coming to this year’sCooktown Discovery Festival — and we want everyone to be part of it. OnSaturday 21 June, the community is invited to come together at the Festival Main Stage for a mass sing-along and video recording of Solid Rock by legendary Australian band, Goanna.

This powerful anthem — originally released in 1982 and chosen by Reconciliation Australia for the national Voices for Reconciliation campaign during National Reconciliation Week 2025 — calls on all Australians to reflect on the country’s true history and the importance of land rights. It’s a song that still resonates, and now it’s our turn to honour its message, right here in Cooktown.

Although Council’s Reconciliation Working Group missed the national project’s deadline, we knew we couldn’t miss the chance to bring the spirit of the campaign to life in our own way — with the help of our talented local community and visiting performers, including Hussy Hicks, Roadtrippers, and Black Image Band.

Whether you’re part of a school, choir, band, cultural group, or just love a good sing-along, we’d love for you to join in. There’s no sign-up required — just turn up on the day and sing with us. If you’d like to prepare in advance, email mail@cook.qld.gov.au and we’ll send you the lyrics.
