As planning gets underway for the 2026–27 Budget, Cook Shire Council is inviting the community to get involved. Whether you attend the main Community Update event or participate in the roadshow, this is your opportunity to be informed, engaged and part of the decisions that shape our Shire.
The main event will be the Community Update and Budget Engagement Event, held on Thursday 19 February from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Sovereign Resort, Cooktown. The evening will include panel discussions, information stalls from Council teams, a community Q&A, and an optional interactive activity designed to help Council better understand community experiences and service “pressure points” as budget planning gets underway.
This event is an important opportunity for Cooktown residents to hear the latest updates, ask questions, and be part of the conversation about Council services and the year ahead.
For those unable to attend the full Community Update event, Council will also be at the Cooktown Markets on Saturday 21 February from 8:00am to 10:00am, providing a quick and informal opportunity to participate in the engagement activity and share feedback.
Council’s Engagement Team will also visit other communities as part of the Budget Engagement Roadshow, including Ayton/Bloomfield, Lakeland and Laura.

- Cooktown Markets – Saturday 21 February, 8:00am–10:00am
