Cook Shire residents, boat users and local businesses are being encouraged to have their say on a proposed new dinghy pontoon for the Endeavour River in Cooktown, with consultation now open through the Queensland Government.
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ), part of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, has released a concept design for the proposed Cooktown Pontoon (Charlotte Street) and is inviting community feedback on the project.
The proposed pontoon would be located on the Endeavour River opposite Lions Park, providing a convenient access point for small craft close to Cooktown’s waterfront and local amenities.
The concept design includes:
- A 15-metre floating pontoon
- Capacity for up to six dinghies at one time
- Durable aluminium construction designed for marine environments
If delivered, the new pontoon would provide a dedicated access point for small vessels, helping reduce congestion at the Cooktown boat ramp and improving safety and efficiency for boat users.
Community information session
MSQ will be hosting a community information session in Cooktown where residents and stakeholders can speak directly with the project team, learn more about the proposed design, and ask questions.

Cook Shire Council has previously advocated for improved marine infrastructure in Cooktown and recognises that many in the community have a strong interest in the proposed pontoon.
However, comunity are being reminded that the consultation and project are being led by the Queensland Government. Therefore, all feedback must be provided directly to Maritime Safety Queensland.
Community members are encouraged to review the proposal and submit their feedback through the official consultation channels.
Consultation is open until Sunday 5 April 2026.
