Update and apology

Cook Shire Council advises residents that an update is required to previously shared information regarding rubbish collection services in Cooktown.

Council acknowledges that earlier communication may have caused confusion and apologises for any inconvenience.

The scheduled waste collection on Monday 23 March 2026 will prioritise bins that have already been reported as missed following this week’s service.

Due to current operational capacity following Tropical Cyclone Narelle, it is not possible to undertake a full additional collection across Cooktown at this time. Council’s priority is to maintain essential waste services while addressing missed collections as quickly as possible.

Residents who have already reported a missed bin can expect it to be included in Monday’s service.

Council is currently assessing options for any further collection services, and any updates will be communicated if and when they become available.

Council understands this may be frustrating, particularly following recent weather impacts, and appreciates the community’s patience as recovery and service delivery continues.
