Ida Street: Temporary repairs to commence

Ida Street Update: Temporary Repairs to Restore Access

Cook Shire Council advises that temporary repair works will commence on Ida Street between Power Street and Parkinson Street from Monday 30 March, following the recent culvert failure.

These works are being prioritised to restore safe access as quickly as possible, with scheduling aligned to maximise progress during the school holiday period, where feasible.

Due to the extent of the damage and the complexity of the failure, a full permanent repair is not immediately possible. Temporary works are required first to stabilise the site and safely reopen the road.

Works are expected to take 2–3 days, weather permitting.

What this means for road users:

  • The road will reopen to light vehicles only (under 5 tonnes GVM)
  • Load limits and local traffic signage will be in place
  • Heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, should avoid this section

At this stage, and subject to weather and site conditions, vehicle weight restrictions are expected to remain in place until approximately July 2026, when permanent repairs can be completed.

Endeavour Christian College and impacted residents are being directly informed of these arrangements.

Council acknowledges the inconvenience and thanks the community for their patience while these essential safety works are undertaken and a long-term solution is delivered.
