Cook Shire producers now eligible for disaster recovery grants

Cook Shire primary producers impacted by the recent Tropical Cyclone Narelle and flooding event are now eligible for disaster recovery grants and loans through the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA).

The disaster recovery grants and loans available for primary producers through QRIDA are:

  • Exceptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants of up to $75,000 to help with the immediate costs of clean-up and recovery such as disposing of injured and dead livestock, repairing farm buildings and fencing.
  • Disaster Assistance Loans of up to $2 million with a low-interest rate of 2.14% to re-establish normal operations such as repairing or replacing damaged plant, equipment and farm buildings
  • Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loans of up to $100,000 with a low-interest rate of 2.14% to help with essential working capital for expenses such as paying salaries or wages

This disaster financial assistance is available under the ‘Queensland Monsoon Trough, Cyclone Koji, Cyclone Narelle and Severe Weather’ event which applies to all disasters in activated local government areas since Christmas Eve.

Applications for these disaster recovery grants will remain open until 6 January 2027 and disaster assistance low-interest loans until 31 December 2027.

Disaster-impacted primary producers, small businesses and non-profits can access personalised support to complete their Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) disaster financial assistance applications via virtual ‘QRIDA Connect’ sessions.

These tailored, one-on-one sessions are held online via Teams or over the phone with a QRIDA representative who can walk applicants through their disaster recovery financial assistance application and answer any questions they have about the grants and loans available through QRIDA.
