The community is being advised that construction works for the Scenic Rim Walking Trail Restoration Project will commence in the Cooktown Botanic Gardens (Gallop Botanic Reserve) from Monday 4 May 2026.
These works will restore and upgrade sections of the walking trail network damaged during Cyclone Jasper and are expected to be completed by mid-July 2026, weather permitting.
Temporary Access Restrictions
To ensure public safety during construction:
- Affected walking tracks will be closed prior to mobilisation and throughout the construction period.
- The cricket oval within the Botanic Gardens will be closed during helicopter operations, which are required to support construction activities.
- Signage and barriers will be in place, and the public is required to follow all directions and avoid restricted areas.
