The community is being advised that traffic calming devices are being installed at the following Cooktown locations:
- Webber Esplanade – Splash Park area
- Ida Street / May Street intersection
Installation dates: the week commencing Monday 25 May 2026.
Works are expected to take approximately half a day at each location, weather and operational conditions permitting.
Temporary traffic control will be in place during the works and motorists are asked to drive with care and follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers.
The devices being installed are lower-profile modular rubber traffic calming devices designed to encourage safer driving speeds in areas with pedestrian activity while providing a smoother transition for vehicles.
These works form part of Council’s ongoing efforts to moderate vehicle speeds and improve pedestrian safety in areas used by families and children.
