Temporary Road Closure Notice – Hope Street, Cooktown

A temporary road closure application has been approved in relation to subdivision infrastructure works associated with a private development project.

As a courtesy to residents and road users, the following traffic impacts are being advised in advance.

Temporary road closures will occur on a section of Hope Street, Cooktown (between Newman Street and Mulligan Highway/Racecourse Road, as indicated on the map).

A temporary closure will also be in place on Seagren Street at the Hope Street intersection.

The approved works will be undertaken by the developer’s contractors and involve excavation activities associated with the installation of culverts, water infrastructure, and sewer connections within the road corridor.

Closure Periods

Temporary closures are expected during the following periods:

  • 25 May 2026 – 7 June 2026
  • 1 July 2026 – 14 July 2026

Between 8 June and 30 June 2026, the road is expected to reopen while no works are scheduled within the road corridor.

The permit approval covers the full period through to 14 July 2026 to allow for potential weather or construction delays.

Access and Traffic Management

The developer has advised that:

  • Residents directly impacted by the works have been contacted.
  • Police and emergency services have been notified of the proposed works and traffic impacts.
  • Traffic control measures, detours, and signage will be in place throughout the closure periods.
  • Property access for surrounding residents and businesses will remain available via detours where required.
  • Access for pedestrians, emergency services, and waste collection services will be maintained where possible.

Motorists are requested to follow all traffic signage and exercise caution in the area.

Enquiries

As these works are associated with a private development project, enquiries regarding the works or traffic impacts should be directed to contractors on site.
