Roads work notice

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has advised that they will be carrying out inspections of the Mungumby Creek bridge on Shiptons Flat Road and the Myall Creek and Coen River bridges on the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR).

These inspections are part of TMR’s regular bridge maintenance program to ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of the structures. For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including intermittent full closures and detours, under coordination of traffic controllers while the works are carried out.

The inspections are scheduled as below:
  • Mungumby Creek bridge, Shiptons Flat Road: Tuesday 2 June 2026. The inspection will require intermittent full closures scheduled from 7am to 5pm and queued traffic will be let through in each direction at the start of every hour.
  • Myall Creek bridge, PDR: Wednesday 3 June 2026 to Thursday 4 June 2026. The bridge will be closed for the inspection, with traffic detoured via the nearby Myall Creek Heavy Vehicle Bypass.
  • Coen River bridge, PDR: Friday 5 June 2026 to Saturday 6 June 2026. The inspection will require intermittent full closures scheduled from 7am to 5pm and queued traffic will be let through in each direction at the start of every hour.

Work crews will ensure emergency service vehicles are provided with access if required.
Variable Message Signs (VMSs) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Changes in dates due to poor weather will be posted on the VMS.
