Community members, families and young people are invited to enjoy two days of imaginative theatre and creative workshops this July as Catbird Theatre visits Cooktown for a special school holiday program.
Based on the Sunshine Coast, Catbird Theatre creates original performances for young audiences using storytelling, puppetry, music, movement and interactive theatre experiences designed to spark creativity and curiosity.
The program includes two live performances and two hands-on workshops across Wednesday 8 July and Thursday 9 July 2026, with activities tailored to different age groups.
On Wednesday, younger children can enjoy The Party, a whimsical theatre experience following Sweetie the Swamp Wallaby and her forest friends as they prepare for a very special surprise. The afternoon will also feature a Puppetry Workshop where children can learn how to bring puppets to life and create their own unique character.
Thursday’s program includes Stark Raven Mad, a funny and delightfully absurd performance bringing gothic poetry to life through puppets, costumes, movement and music. A Poetry Performance Workshop will also give young people the opportunity to explore performance, movement and storytelling while bringing poems from page to stage.
Tickets are $5 per child per session, with children aged five years and under free. Registration is still required for free tickets to secure a place.
