Parents, carers and teachers are encouraged to help young people make the most of this year’s Cooktown Careers Expo, proudly hosted by Cooktown P-12 State School, by attending and exploring the wide range of career pathways, training opportunities and local employers on offer.
As one of many exhibitors attending the event, Cook Shire Council will be bringing a fresh and interactive experience to this year’s expo with its new Spin Into Council activation, designed to challenge perceptions of local government and showcase the surprising range of careers that help keep our communities running.
Students who visit the Council stall will be invited to share their ideas about the future of Cook Shire before spinning the wheel to unlock one of two fun activities. Along the way, they’ll discover interesting facts about Council, learn about the people behind local services and projects, and gain insight into the diverse career opportunities available within local government.
Best of all, every student who completes the activity will go into the draw to win a pair of Apple AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation.
From engineers, environmental officers and water operators to event coordinators, communications professionals, rangers and disaster management teams, local government offers a broad range of rewarding careers that many young people may never have considered.
The Careers Expo is a fantastic opportunity for students to start thinking about their future, connect with employers and training providers, and explore pathways that could one day lead them to meaningful local careers right here in Cook Shire and beyond.
