Works associated with the Scenic Rim Walking Trail project, including the new path and access improvements at Finch Bay, are progressing through the final stages of delivery, with final inspections and project completion activities currently underway.
As a result, the Scenic Rim Walking Trail remains temporarily closed between Grassy Hill, Cherry Tree Bay, the Cooktown Botanic Gardens and Finch Bay, including access to Finch Bay Beach.
While access to Finch Bay Beach had previously been anticipated to be restored earlier this month, a number of final inspections and project completion activities are still underway.
Efforts remain focused on ensuring all remaining requirements are completed before the trail and beach access can safely reopen to the public.
It is acknowledged that this delay will be disappointing for residents and visitors, particularly ahead of the Discovery Festival weekend, and appreciation is extended to the community for its patience and understanding.
The project team is continuing to work through the remaining requirements as a priority, and a further update will be provided once reopening arrangements have been confirmed.
Once completed, the Scenic Rim Walking Trail improvements will provide safer, more resilient access between some of Cooktown’s most iconic natural and cultural attractions, enhancing the experience for both residents and visitors alike.
