Developers of the new IGA supermarket have notified Council of planned controlled minor blasting works at the construction site on the corner of Charlotte and Walker Streets, Cooktown.
The controlled blast is expected to occur later this week or early next week as part of ongoing construction activities.
The works will be undertaken by appropriately qualified contractors in accordance with relevant safety requirements.
The developer has advised that neighbouring businesses, residents and nearby organisations will be contacted directly before the works take place.
People in the surrounding area may notice a brief loud noise and minor ground vibrations while the blast is carried out. These impacts are expected to be short-lived and are a normal part of controlled blasting operations.
