Whether you want to feel more confident using technology, learn how to spot misleading information, meet other families or simply give the kids space to create, there is something for everyone at Cook Shire Libraries during Library and Information Week 2026.
Libraries are no longer just places to borrow books. They are welcoming community spaces where people can learn new skills, find trusted information, connect with others and explore new ideas.
This Library and Information Week, come along and discover what your local library can help you do.
Get more from your technology
Need help with your phone, tablet or laptop?
Tech Time offers friendly, one-on-one support with the everyday technology questions that can sometimes leave us feeling stuck.
Library staff can help you set up a new device, learn useful digital skills or troubleshoot a problem, all at your own pace and without the technical jargon.
Bookings are essential.
learn how to separate fact from fiction
It can be difficult to know what to trust online.
Truth Be Told: Navigating misinformation in the digital age is a practical and engaging session designed to help you recognise questionable information, identify trustworthy sources and better understand how misinformation spreads.
You will leave with simple, useful strategies to help you feel more confident about what you read, watch and share online.
Play, learn and connect
Families with young children are invited to enjoy stories, songs and hands-on activities at the Playtime Pop-Up at the Cooktown Events Centre.
The relaxed and welcoming session supports early literacy, learning and social development while giving children the chance to explore, play and have fun together.
It is also a great opportunity for parents and carers to connect with other local families.
Let young imagination take the lead
Young builders can put their creativity to the test at LEGO Club.
Children can tackle fun building challenges, create their own masterpieces, practise problem-solving and meet other young creators.
Children under 12 must be accompanied and actively supervised by an adult. LEGO Club is not a drop-off session.
Join the celebration
All activities are free, although bookings are required for selected sessions.
Visit the Cook Shire Council events calendar for session dates, times and booking details, and discover just how much your local library has to offer.
