Finch Bay access reopens via new all-access boardwalk

Access to Finch Bay has reopened, with the new boardwalk now ready for residents and visitors to use.

The boardwalk structure provides a more accessible, stable and reliable route to the beach than the previous sand track.

Designed to improve access for a wider range of users, the new structure makes it easier for families, older residents, people with limited mobility and visitors carrying beach gear to reach Finch Bay.

To further improve user safety and accessibility, Council will extend the existing handrail, making it easier and more comfortable for people to use the facility. These additional works does not affect the compliance or use of the boardwalk, although brief access interruptions may be required while installation takes place.

The reopening marks an important milestone in the Scenic Rim Walking Trail project and restores community access to one of Cooktown’s most popular coastal locations.

Some broader project completion activities will continue in the surrounding area, but access to Finch Bay is now open.
