Residents are advised that several planned hazard reduction burns will take place across Cook Shire from Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August 2026.
Smoke may be visible in and around the affected areas. All burns are planned and controlled and will only proceed if weather and operational conditions are suitable.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service planned burn
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will undertake a planned hazard reduction burn within Endeavour River National Park, on the eastern side of Endeavour Valley Road, from Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August 2026.
Queensland Fire Department planned hazard reduction burn: Marton
Queensland Fire Department (QFD) will undertake a planned hazard reduction burn in the Marton area this weekend.
Queensland Fire Department planned hazard reduction burn: Keatings and Borefields
QFD will also undertake a planned hazard reduction burn in the Keatings and Borefields area during the weekend.
Why are planned hazard reduction burns important?
Planned burns help reduce the build-up of grass, leaves and other vegetation that can fuel bushfires. This can lower the intensity and spread of future fires, help protect communities, property and the environment, and provide firefighters with valuable practical experience.
Residents and motorists may notice smoke in and around the area when the burns are underway.
