Cooktown Swimming Pool will remain closed beyond the previously anticipated reopening around 8 August, with the second stage of upgrade works now able to proceed sooner.
The pool was expected to reopen briefly between the chlorination system upgrade and surface painting. However, the painting works have now been brought forward, allowing both stages to proceed as one continuous program.
We understand some swimmers and families will be disappointed that the anticipated short reopening will no longer occur. Keeping the pool closed avoids reopening for only a brief period before another shutdown and is expected to shorten the overall upgrade program.
The pool will remain closed from 8 August to allow the necessary preparation for the painting works. A reopening date will be confirmed once the remaining works, refilling, water treatment and testing are complete.
Monthly passes will be extended from the reopening date for at least the full duration of the closure.
Thank you to Cooktown’s swimming community for continuing to bear with us while these important improvements are completed.
