Council has been notified that Telstra will be carrying out maintenance on our network to repair a damaged section of fibre cable that provides services to Coen.
Mobile and other services in the area will be temporarily disrupted while the maintenance works are underway.
Maintenance works will be undertaken on Thursday 20th of August. To minimise impact to their customers, the works will be conducted overnight from midnight to 6am. During these works, service disruptions may occur for a period of up to 6 hours.
Important details:
- Telstra mobile customers will get an SMS ahead of the works.
- NBN, satellite internet, landlines (PSTN), and other providers’ mobile coverage won’t be affected.
- If Telstra mobile is down, compatible phones will auto “camp on” to another network for Triple Zero (000) calls — if a call doesn’t connect in ~5 seconds, hang up and retry immediately; on later attempts, stay on the line up to 60 seconds.
- Medical/safety devices relying on Telstra mobile (fall detectors, in-room monitors, alarm pendants, health monitors) may be affected — users should check with their provider/manufacturer about impacts and Wi‑Fi alternatives.
- Businesses with EFTPOS on the Telstra mobile network should check with their bank/provider whether terminals can switch to NBN or Wi‑Fi to keep processing payments during any disruption.
- There may be occasions where timings or impacts change due to factors outside control.
