That cupboard you’ve been avoiding? The clothes you haven’t worn in years? The kids’ gear they’ve outgrown and the perfectly good stuff taking over the shed?
This is your sign to clear it out – and maybe make some cash while you’re at it.
Spring into the Markets is coming to the Cooktown Markets on Saturday 12 September, with the whole community encouraged to spring clean, set up a stall and sell, swap or rehome the things they no longer need.
And it’s now cheaper to have a go, with Council’s once-off non-food market stall fee reduced from $29 to just $10.
From clothes, toys and books to tools, plants, household goods and those miscellaneous treasures you’ve been meaning to do something with, one person’s clutter could be someone else’s bargain.
Sporting clubs and community groups are encouraged to get involved too, with the $10 stall fee providing a low-cost opportunity to fundraise, connect with the community and promote what they do.
More than a market
Spring into the Markets is also about giving good stuff another life.
Selling, swapping, repairing and rehoming usable items keeps them in circulation for longer and helps reduce what ends up in landfill.
Council is also working on some extra activities for the morning, with more details to be announced soon.
Are you ready to turn your trash into cash?
Spring into the Markets will be held at the Cooktown Markets from 7am to noon on Saturday 12 September 2026.
Anyone wanting to operate a non-food stall must complete Council’s Market (Non-Food) Stall Application and pay the applicable $10 once-off fee.
