Creativity was blooming across Cook Shire Libraries these school holidays, with families coming together to make, create and share in a little garden-inspired fun.
Across two weeks of free school holiday activities, children and their families joined sessions at libraries in Cooktown, Lakeland, and Bloomfield, turning simple craft materials into colourful creations to take home.
From first-time visitors discovering what their local library has to offer, to familiar faces returning for more holiday fun, the sessions brought families together and filled the libraries with plenty of creativity, conversation, and smiles.
Two weeks of garden-inspired fun
The first week saw budding creators decorate porcelain hanging baskets and mini terracotta pots, adding their own colourful touches to pieces destined for gardens and windowsills around the Shire.
In the second week, foliage and flowers took centre stage, with participants creating colourful arrangements and nature-inspired collages.
Each session offered children the chance to get creative at their own pace, try something new and spend time together as a family.
A community collage that kept growing
One of the highlights was the gardening-themed Community Collage at Cooktown Library.
Visitors of all ages were invited to add their own creative touch, with the collage growing and changing throughout the school holidays as more people stopped by to contribute.
By the end of the break, it had become a colourful reflection of the community itself, made up of individual pieces brought together to create something everyone could be part of.
Colouring creativity
The school holiday fun also included a colouring-in competition, which attracted plenty of creative entries from across the community.
With bright blooms, busy bugs and imaginative garden scenes filling the entries, choosing the winners was no easy task.
Growing community connections
School holiday activities are about more than making something to take home. They are a chance for families to spend time together, meet others and enjoy the welcoming spaces their local libraries provide.
From colourful pots and hanging baskets to a community artwork made by many hands, the holidays were a wonderful reminder of the creativity that grows when the community comes together.
