Round up the crew, it’s time to start planning a trip to Laura!
Cook Shire’s 2027 show day gazetted public holiday will fall on Friday 25 June 2027, giving the whole Shire a long weekend for the Laura Rodeo, Campdraft and Races Weekend.
With the date now approved by the Queensland Government, there’s no better time to start marking calendars and making plans.
More than a day off
For many locals, the Laura Rodeo, Campdraft and Races Weekend is more than another event on the calendar. It’s a much-loved tradition that brings people together from across Cape York and beyond for a weekend of competition, community spirit and plenty of familiar faces.
It’s a celebration of rural skills, horsemanship, local talent, and the strong community connections that make events like this such an important part of life in Cook Shire.
That’s why Cook Shire’s show holiday has been appointed for the Laura weekend since 2023, and it has become a fixture on the local calendar.
Each year, Council nominates a show holiday date, which must then be approved by the Queensland Government. Council put forward Friday 25 June for 2027 (Resolution 2026/145), and the Queensland Government has now confirmed it.
Details of Council offices, facilities and operating hours over the long weekend will be shared closer to the date.
