NOISE COMPLAINTS

Keeping a peaceful community through noise regulation

Cook Shire Council regulates noise from domestic animals, regulated devices (lawn mowers, power tools), refrigeration equipment, spa blowers, pool pumps, air conditioning units, power boat engines, and environmentally relevant activities. While noise can be a major nuisance, only certain types are regulated under Queensland law.

These include the following:
Building Works

Noise from building works is permitted from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Saturday. Building noise on Sundays or public holidays is not allowed.

Regulated Noise

Noise from leaf blowers, lawn mowers, power tools, air conditioning units, refrigeration equipment, pumps, and boat engines is regulated. For detailed restrictions, contact Council’s Environmental Health Officer on 4082 0500.

Residential Premises

Lawn mowers, power tools, and similar equipment can be used from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sundays and public holidays.

Construction Sites

Air compressors, concreting equipment, power tools, vibratory equipment, hammers, and generators can be used from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sundays.

Barking Dogs and Animal Noise

If a dog’s bark or noise from another animal or bird is persistently disruptive and unreasonably interferes with your peace and well-being, please contact Council and a Local Law Officer will investigate the complaint.

Other Noise Sources

Police handle noise complaints related to indoor venues, open-air events, and amplified devices.
