Bravo! Opera Queensland live in Cooktown

Pack a picnic and gather your favourite people for a magical evening of opera under the Cooktown sky.

Opera Queensland is bringing its exhilarating concert Bravo! to the William Daku Waterfront on Thursday 22 October 2026.

Set against Cooktown’s spectacular waterfront, this free, 80-minute outdoor concert will feature some of Australia’s finest operatic voices performing much-loved arias, duets and ensembles by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Bizet and more. Many of the soaring melodies will be instantly recognisable, even if you have never experienced opera before.

Created for seasoned opera lovers and curious first-time audiences alike, Bravo! combines extraordinary voices, entertaining storytelling and all the passion and drama of opera in one wonderfully accessible concert experience.

The performance stars current and former Opera Queensland Young Artists Nick Kirkup, Lachlann Lawton and Maddie Stephens, alongside Western Australian artist Chelsea Burns, accompanied by renowned pianist Beverley Kennedy.

Warm and engaging introductions throughout the concert will reveal the stories, characters and composers behind the music, making Bravo! a perfect first taste of opera and a memorable night out for audiences of all ages.

What is Bravo!?

Bravo! is an accessible concert featuring some of opera’s greatest and most recognisable music. It includes famous arias, duets and ensembles by composers including Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and Bizet.

Do I need to know anything about opera?

Not at all. Bravo! has been created for first-time audiences as well as established opera lovers. The performers introduce the stories, characters and composers throughout the concert.

Is the Cooktown performance free?

Yes. The Opera Queensland performance at the William Daku Waterfront is free to attend and is proudly presented by the Queensland Government and Cook Shire Council through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), supporting local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
