Need a hand to get ready for extreme weather season?
Cook Shire Council’s Seniors’ Handy Help Pick-Up is back, helping eligible residents clear potential hazards from around their homes before the wet season.
The service is designed for seniors and people with limited mobility who receive the Age Pension or Disability Support Pension and live within a defined kerbside waste collection area.
Eligible residents can register to have up to four cubic metres of eligible waste collected from their property free of charge during Council’s Free Dumping Days, from 10 to 22 November 2026.
This program is an opt-in service & must be arranged in advance
Call Council’s Waste Team on 4082 0500 before the deadline to confirm your eligibility and register.
Once your registration is confirmed, Council will send you a letter advising:
- your collection date
- the types of waste that can be collected
- the Council staff member assigned to your collection.
Please keep this letter and give it to the Council staff member when your waste is collected.
Who is eligible?
To use the Handy Help Pick-Up service, residents must:
1. Live within a defined waste collection area and receive a kerbside bin collection service
2. Hold a valid Age Pension or Disability Support Pension Concession card

Getting ready for collection
- Residents must sort and separate their waste into eligible categories before collection.
- Place the sorted waste together in a safe and accessible location on your property before your allocated collection date.
- Up to four cubic metres of eligible waste will be collected free of charge. If you have more than four cubic metres, contact Council for a quote and to discuss the most suitable collection option.
- This service is for the collection of stockpiled waste only. Council staff cannot clean up yards or move waste from inside homes, sheds or other structures.
Standard disposal fees will apply to all mixed, unsorted or ineligible waste.
